Does marijuana help glaucoma?

Category: Health    Time: 2008-03-29

There are some important medical uses for marijuana, and some of these lead to solid arguments for legalization. However, the use of marijuana for glaucoma does not appear to have any benefit over available medications.

Marijuana does reduce pressure in the eye, but in order to sustain this reduction you would have to smoke about ten to twelve joints a day. Your eye pressure might be lower but you will be too stoned to get anything else accomplished except naked guitar playing, gluttonous pork rind consumption, or deriving profound meaning from Rob Schneider films.

That is true about cannabis and glaucoma. However Medical Marijuana has its place, namely what it does for me. Controls mild to severe nausea that I have every hour of every day. If the nausea is not controlles it leads to 12-24 hr vomiting sessions requiring 48 hrs to recover from. I have Diabetic Neuropathic Gastro Paresis, meaning some of my stomach muscles used for digestion are paralyzed resulting in delayed stomach emptying and thus the nausea. Inhaking cannabis vapors with a vaporizor is the best in controlling nausea and vomiting. All the legal drugs actually cause nausea after 6 months of 3 times a day use, not so with marijuana. Plus with the ACP’s letter endorsing medical marijuana, what corrupt and evil thing is our government doing dragging its feet and confusing the issue of legalization?

Marijuana can reduce intraocular pressure, but the dose for glaucoma would cause brain and liver damage, so it is not used for glaucoma treatment.
