Scarlet macaws are bird found in Central and South America.

The scarlet macaw is a large type of parrot. It grows to about 90 centimeters (35 inches) long. It is named for its bright red feathers.

Scarlet macaws eat seeds, nuts, and fruits. They nest in holes high up in trees. They often travel in pairs or small flocks and can fly at speeds of up to 56 kilometers (35 miles) per hour.

Scarlet macaws have suffered from habitat loss and from their capture for the pet trade. They are now an endangered species.
