A tarantula is a large hairy spider. The bird spider of South America, one of the world’s largest spiders, is a tarantula. It has body that is 7.6-10 centimeters (3-4 inches) long, and it can spread its legs about 18 centimeters (7 inches).

Bird spiders are tarantulas that live in trees and eat small birds.
Tarantulas hunt at night. They crush their prey using their large fangs. Then they inject digestive juices into the body and suck up the liquid.
