What is Amnesia?
Amnesia is a form of cognitive disorder characterized by memory impairments as a result of a traumatic event.
Types of Amnesia
- Retrograde Amnesia: memory loss of prior events
- Anterograde Amnesia: inability to form new memories
- Transient Global Amnesia =both. sudden onset of anterograde amnesia (minutes to days) and retrograde amnesia for recent events preceding attack.
- Traumatic Amnesia
- Posthypnotic Amnesia
- Infantile/Childhood Amnesia
- Psychogenic (hysterical) Amnesia: due to emotional disturbance
